The Plateau State government has assured that it would continue to explore and promote the vast tourism and cultural potentials to the outside world through the display of the people’s culture and traditions and the exhibition of the state’s traditional art and craft.
It has also assured of its readiness to support the creative and entertainment industry for massive employment potentials, and is willing and ready to support Radio and Television “talk show” programmes that will promote the rich cultural endowment that will preserve the languages of the people as well as implement the creation of chiefdoms, districts and village areas.
Governor Simon Lalong made this assurance during the Goemai Cultural Festival held in Shendam Mini Stadium, over the weekend, and called on all plateau people to strive for language and cultural preservation to promote the state and the nation at large.
The governor maintained that, languages are vital tools for interacting and expressing ideas, emotions, knowledge, memories and their values, saying that, cultural heritage is very essential in identifying individual’s behavior and group.
He said, the festival celebrated, which was tagged “Festival of Peace and Unity,” served with an aim towards fostering unity and peaceful co-existence of the rich Goemai culture in the state and Nigeria, has remained the focal point of the policy thrust of the APC government in the state.
“With the policy thrust of this administration, we will ensure peace, security and good governance,” Lalong said, adding that, unity and peace are essential ingredients that pivot the forging ahead in attaining sustainability that is hospital across the state.
He urged the people to create cardinal objectives of cultural development associations so as to promote the unity, while expressing commitment that his administration will bring socio-economic stability – even in the area of educational advancement of the people of different ethnic nationalities.
Barr Lalong said, government will develop associations to ensure domestication of critical areas of agriculture, health, education, economic empowerment, technological advancement and socio-engineering to lead general development of people.
