The Plateau State Police Command has intercepted two trucks conveying one hundred and forty-five (145) children from Bauchi and Jigawa States to Plateau, Kaduna and Nasarawa states, by an underground ‘movement.’
The children, aged 4 to 8 years, were being transported from other states to states within the North Central – with Plateau State as a major route – and with the share of the minors.
A statement signed by the Command’s Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Tyopev Mathias Terna, said, investigation revealed further that the children, who were all male, were to be taken to places where the three Mallams, who are coordinating the ‘movement,’ have not even visited.
The Command is, therefore, pleading with members of the public to be vigilant and report when strange children are sighted within their environs.
According to the PPRO, the warning has become necessary, because the STF Sector 2, located opposite University of Jos, on Thursday, 12/01/2017, at about 213 hrs intercepted two trucks conveying 145 children.
The Command is liaising with Jama’atu Nasril Islam (JNI) in the state and other critical stakeholders in the state to establish contacts with the two state governments for the return of these minors to their parents; and to those in-charge – the master-minders of this act – will be taken to court, to serve as deterrent to others, who intend to indulge in similar illegal act, in the north central and the Nation at large.
