Police officer killed by unknown gunmen in Kanam

Report has it that a Police Station in Kanam local government council of Plateau State had been attacked by unknown gunmen, killing one Police Officer.

Following the attack, which led to the death of one Sgr. Zunpan Donatus, at one of their Stations in Dangi, in the local government council, seven suspects were arrested and detained by the Plateau State Police Command.

The Plateau State Public Relations Officer, ASP Tyopev Matthias Terna, disclosed this to Conscience Triumph in Jos, on Wednesday, when he said five out of the seven suspects were rearrested and two are still at large, adding that the incident occurred at the early hours of Monday, around 2 am.

Investigation further revealed that five (5) police men were not on their duty post prior to the attack. When asked to explain their whereabouts during the incident, they said they “went to eat at that hour.”

The PPRO told Conscience Triumph that, seven (7) AK-47 rifles were carted away from the Police Station, including the officer that was killed; and that the officer’s rifle, too, was taken away.

ASP Terna further explained that, one of the AK-47 rifles was later recovered from the bush.

Meanwhile, the Emir of Kanam, Alh Mohammed Ma’azu, has expressed fear on the attack, because the Kanam Police Station was close to his Palace, which in the circumstance infers that he is “not safe.”

Following this development, it was reliably also gathered that the Emir was in Jos to see the Plateau State Police Commissioner and discuss the security challenges with the council chairman, Isa Hashimu, and the Deputy Speaker of the Plateau State House of Assembly, Hon Yusuf Babayo Gagdi representing Kanam constituency in the House.
