University Of Bokkos To Award First-Class Degrees To 3 Graduating Students

Plateau State University, Bokkos, is to graduate 344 Students on Saturday, 4th February, 2017, out of which 3 are billed to grab First-class awards.

Vice Chancellor of the University, Prof Doknan Decent Danjuma Sheni, disclosed this, while briefing newsmen, Tuesday, on the activities lined up for the convocation at the University in Bokkos, Bokkos local government of Plateau State.

He said about 300 students will not be graduated because of their either not passing in one or two papers, or have some problems, which are yet to be cleared.

The VC revealed that the University was established 12 years ago, and it has not graduated any student due to non-accreditation, adding that this would be the first ever convocation since the establishment of the University.

Prof Doknan Sheni explained further that, two courses have been fully accredited, which include Management and Accounting, while the remaining courses are still on the process of receiving accreditation.

He said, 64 lecturers of the University are on training outside the country – some in United States, United Kingdom, Malaysia, France, and South Africa, adding that “as a lecturer of the University, you need to have a PhD; if not, you can only be assisting a lecturer.”

According to him, the challenges facing the institution were lack funds and infrastructures, in addition to the state government’s inability to pay salaries of Civil Servants in the State last year.

Activities lined up for the first convocation of the University began with a briefing of journalists on Tuesday, 31st January, 2017, to be followed by Novelty Matches between Staffs vs Students and Staffs vs Youth Corps Members.

Others include Drama and Variety Show/Performance, slated for Wednesday, 1st February, 2017. Thursday, 2nd February, is for Founders/Local Government Day; Friday, 3rd February is Convocation Lecture, while Saturday, 4th February, will be the Convocation Ceremony, Installation of Chancellor, Award of Honorary Degrees, Speeches and Awards of First-Class Degrees to the founding fathers, including Gen Yakubu Gowon (rtd).

The VC called on private investors and government to establish another university in the state, in order to accommodate the high demand of applicants, stressing that, “we definitely need another university in the state.”

Conscience Triumph gathers that, since its inception 12 years ago, the Institution has had but 4 Vice Chancellors.
