Acting President, Professor Yemi Osinbajo’s one day working visit to Kaduna, Friday has further exposed the deepening cold war raging among the rankings of political leaders in the state, especially the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC.
His visit, which was purely intended to inspect the level of preparedness of Kaduna Airport to serve as alternative route as a result of the closure of the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja, was considerably empty of personalities, as all the lawmakers representing Kaduna state at the National Assembly shunned the visits.
Conspicuously absent were all the 3 senators from Kaduna and all the 23 members of the House of Representatives. Our correspondent, who was at the Airport’s wings of security checks, waiting rooms, luggage and runway, however witnessed the high level speed of progress of work monitored, and discovered that none of the Federal legislators were present.
All attempts made to verify remote courses of the scenario hit the brick-wall. However, when contacted, the 3 senators from the State – Senator Danjuma La’ah and Senator Shehu Sani responded that they were not informed of the Acting President’s visit to the state.
Senator Suleiman Hunkuyi, represents Kaduna North, whose nominee was recently removed from office as commissioner by El-Rufai, refused to make any comments on the matter.
Some of the House of Representatives members contacted accused the Governor of highhandedness and arrogance. The House of Reps member from Zaria zone, who craved anonymity, responded thus: “You know, we have a governor, who wants to shine alone. He sees everyone as a threat.”
A social media report also stressed that “A member of House of Reps from Southern Kaduna questioned, ‘How can a Governor host an Acting President without federal lawmakers; this indicates his troubles with almost everyone. You can see that all State Governors go along with their federal lawmakers except El-Rufai. The last time he called us to Government Lodge in Abuja and ended up threatening us with the issue of Southern Kaduna.’ ”
Another member of House Reps from the opposition party in Kaduna zone accused the governor of being anti-Christians. One of the lawmakers from Zaria declined to make comments on the grounds that the governor can be vindictive for whatever opinion made against him; while yet another federal lawmaker, who claimed to be close to the governor, predicted that the governor is unelectable in 2019, and that by coming close to him he discovered that the man is fraudulent and deceptive.
Police security operatives have continued to parade the roads linking the airport, while others stationed at their posts to secure the environment. As usual, all calls put to Samuel Aruwan, the media aide of the Governor, were unanswered.
