Facts have began to emerge about the sponsors of political thugs that invaded the secretariat of the Nigerian Union of Journalists, Kaduna State Council, on Sunday, and disrupted press conference billed to be addressed by aggrieved APC National Assembly members representing the state.
Senator Shehu Sani, representing Kaduna Central, in his Facebook comment, has revealed that the attackers were aided by a Divisional Police Officer, DPO, (division name withheld), to assassinate some political leaders of the APC and silence them.
His words: “The invasion of the Kaduna NUJ secretariat by sponsored armed thugs during our press conference was an attempt to kill us, in order to silence us. The attack was aided by a Police DPO.”
Meanwhile, in a swift reaction, Governor Nasir Ahmad El-Rufai of Kaduna state has issued a statement immediately after the incident, saying, that nobody will be allowed to stifle freedom of expression.
In the statement, the government condemned the mob action by hoodlums at the premises of the NUJ on Sunday, while stating that “Having been briefed on the situation, the governor expressed sympathy with the NUJ and the persons that were harassed by the hoodlums.
“The Governor directed that the security agencies should investigate and take necessary action against the hoodlums. The Governor also directed security agencies to beef up security at the NUJ secretariat to protect journalists doing their duties,” he said.
