During the meeting of the NCEF on 6th September, 2017, it was agreed by the National Christian Elders to encourage the setting up of States Christian Elders Forum. This is to strengthen representation and ensure that Christian Elders respond to the peculiar needs and challenges of Christians in different states of the federation.
It was also agreed that Chairmen of the State Chapters of the Christian Elders Forum would be members of the National Christian Elders Forum. As it obtains at the National Forum, the States Christian Elders Forum will operate under the umbrella of CAN at the State level as the NCEF is a subset of CAN. The respected members of NCEF are encouraged to participate in the establishment of the States’ Christian Elders Forum in their respective states, in collaboration with their State Chairmen of CAN, and provide the leadership/experience that are needed for it to function effectively.
Already, some states have started working on the establishment of the State Christian Elders Forum. Members of State Elders Forum must be respected individuals of the age of preferably not below seventy years who share in the Cross objectives of Christianity, Good over Evil, Light over Darkness and Hope over Distress. Such elders should see themselves as points of reconciliation. They should also understand and accept the Christian concepts of Solidiarity, Subsidiarity and the Common Good and, finally, the Unity of Christians as one Body in Christ in matters concerning Democracy and Rule of Law that must remain sacrosanct in governance.
