Special Duties’ Special Adviser to the Speaker of House of Representatives, Hon Shehu Bawa, ABG, in partnership with National Eye Center, Monday flagged off free medical and eye surgery exercise in Kaduna for over 10,000 people, who have different medical challenges and could not afford medical bills.
Shehu ABG said beneficiaries had been drawn from across Kaduna Central Senatorial Zone, comprising seven local government areas, adding that reception and participation in the free medical programme had been tremendous.
He said over ten thousand people with various ailments such as Hernia, Fibroid, Diabetes, Hypertension, Malaria, Typhoid, Worms, Cataracts Operation and many more will be operated on.
“There are over forty medical doctors, who are specialists in different medical fields, who are here today to attend to individuals with different health challenges, especially people with various eye defects and could not afford to pay for treatments.
“We have decided in our little way to bring these doctors to their doorsteps so that they can be diagnosed and treated of their ailments,” he said.
Shehu ABG, who represented Kaduna North Federal Constituency, from 2011-2015, added that it was sad and disheartening seeing people he once represented as their Federal Law Maker going about soliciting for medical assistance from the wealthy people, who in turn do nothing to help or alleviate the suffering of the poor and needy in the society, due to their selfishness.
He said in an ideal society, medical needs of the electorate should be the primary concern of the government at all levels. But unfortunately, in Nigeria, the electorates are abandoned to take care of their medical needs as soon as elections are won and lost, after promises have been made by contestants to take care of the medical need of the electorate.
Shehu ABG solicited free medical service to be provided by Federal and State Legislators, which he said would reduce over-dependence on the already overstretched health care facilities across the country.
The free medical exercise, which will take simultaneously at the National Eye Center Mando and Primary Health Center Ungwan Shanu Kaduna, from Monday the 11th of December 2017, is expected to end on 16th of December 2017.
