At last, many reportedly feared dead and scores seriously injured on both sides of parties involved in fighting that broke out on Monday in Kasuwan Magani in Kajuru Local Government Area of Kaduna state.

Although, the remote cause of the fighting was yet to be made public at the time of filling the report, the fighting, described as heavy by eyewitness, reportedly started in the early hours of Monday between rival groups suspected to be Muslims and Christians.

Speaking to our correspondent on phone, Commissioner of Police, Kaduna command, Mr. Austin Iwar, said the command has not been able to ascertain the remote causes of crises at press time.

He however explained that even though it was difficult to confirm the number of casualties until after a house-to-house search is carried out in an area that is fairly large, many that were injured during the fighting have been taken to hospital.

CP also stated that the command has set up an investigation team to investigate the allegations made, stressing that, while some described the allegation as religious, others ascribed it to boyfriends and girlfriends’ issues.

“We don’t want to give figure that would be in conflict with the reality tomorrow, so until we get right. A number of casualties have been taken to hospital, but for now we cannot confirm the figure because we are still searching the place, which is large, and go from house-to-house,” he said.

Mr Iwar also confirmed that 10 people have so far been arrested in connection with the conflict, and would be interrogated before a press statement will be issued tomorrow.

According to him, calm has already returned to the area and roads have been opened for movement and normal activities, while resources have been mobilized to ensure continued maintaining of peace by the security.

It would be recalled that similar incidents occurred in Maraba Rido community, a few kilometers away from Kasuwan Magani, a week ago, where about five persons were allegedly arrested by security.
